Transforming transit

A Visa event about accelerating seamless, friction-free contactless commuting around the world.

People around the world spend up to $800 billion annually on public transport fares, a very large proportion of which is paid in cash or cash-equivalent technology like smartcards.  Contactless technology can help reduce the need for traditional tickets or travel smartcards and therefore reduce the operating costs for cash acceptance, making it faster and easier for consumers to ride on mass transit while making it less expensive for operators to run their network.

Transforming Transit - A Visa Special Event

Visa has a successful history of supporting clients and public transport operators to deliver contactless payments acceptance in the mass transit industry, helping to transform the passenger experience for billions of journeys. Visa contactless fares are now accepted in many cities around the world, through partnerships with more than 100 transit operators or authorities globally.

To fully transform the passenger experience, we built the Visa Global Transit Solutions team, based in London with dedicated regional implementation specialists. Together, the team members have more than 50 years of experience working directly with and for transit companies and related industries. They have supported contactless implementations around the world by providing guidance, best practices and hands-on assistance, helping launch projects more quickly and with maximum impact.

During our Transforming Transit event on Wednesday 25 October, hosted at the London Innovation Center, the VGTS team unveiled a number of new products and initiatives, which have been designed to allow transit authorities the world over to follow London’s lead and revolutionise their fare collection strategies.

For those who were unable to make it to London we look forward to welcoming you at our events in Dubai, New York City and Singapore in 2018.
