London, 26 June 2015: Title sponsor of the London Formula E races, Visa Europe drafted in its innovation ambassador Usain Bolt to give drivers a unique challenge ahead of this weekend’s championship finale. The leading European payment provider announced that one driver will earn Bolt’s FanBoost, ultimately helping in their bid to win this weekend’s races.
The winner was the French driver Loïc Duval, 33, with Sam Bird, 28, of Britain, in second, and the German racer Daniel Abt, 22, coming in third.
Duval said: “The challenge was great. Getting the fanboost will be a big advantage especially in London because the track is so narrow.”
In a video shared through his Twitter account @usainbolt, the world’s fastest man challenged Formula E drivers to compete in a 100m sprint with the winner receiving Usain’s #BoostedByBolt endorsement. Taking place at the Visa London ePrix Battersea Park circuit, the race will give Loïc Duval an increased chance of receiving the FanBoost, with help from Usain’s huge fan following.
A FanBoost gives fans the opportunity to give their favourite driver an extra speed boost by voting for them prior to the race. The three drivers with the most votes, made online and through social media before each race, will each receive a 5-second power boost, temporarily increasing their car’s power from 150kwatts to 180kwatts.
Visa innovation ambassador Usain Bolt comments: “I know a thing or two about speed but when competing I always get that extra boost from my fans. Being Formula E’s fastest fan, I want to share this advantage with a lucky driver at the Visa London ePrix, but they have to work for it first.”
Mark Antipof, Chief Sales and Marketing officer at Visa Europe said: “Visa Europe’s partnership with Formula E is, and has always been, a chance to push the boundaries and put fans at the heart of the race action. Completely exclusive to the Visa London ePrix, the Boosted By Bolt challenge is an exciting, smart and innovative concept and we look forward to seeing which driver wins, while having a bit of fun along the way.”
Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, added: “The collaboration with Visa Europe is a great example of how brands can work together to enhance the race day experience for fans. Engaging with the fastest man in the world to support the fastest electric drivers in the world is not only a great synergy, it’ll provide some excellent entertainment for the fans.”
