Our continent is facing the biggest refugee and migrant crisis since the aftermath of the Second World War. The scale is unprecedented in our time, and is continuing to evolve. This is a defining moment for Europe and warrants an exceptional response.
Visa Europe has confirmed that it will provide a donation of £1million to Save the Children’s special Child Refugee Crisis Appeal.
Fiona Wilkinson, chief communications officer, said: “Visa Europe has a longstanding track record of supporting good causes and our employees are second to none when it comes to raising money and giving time.”
“But the unprecedented scale of this crisis right on our doorstep requires an exceptional response. All our markets are affected and collectively we all need to play our part.”
“This is why the Visa Europe board decided to give a donation of £1million to Save the Children’s Child Refugee Crisis Appeal in line with our vision to help young people thrive. Our donation will enable Save the Children to mobilise quickly, and to focus resource and scale up their response where it is most needed to help the children affected by this crisis. We hope other businesses will also respond to the appeal.”
The donation is over and above Visa Europe’s existing employee and corporate fundraising activities for Save the Children – which is Visa Europe’s ongoing charity partner.
Save the Children has worked on these issues for decades, they work along the whole route that refugees take – in the war torn countries they are fleeing as well as the countries en route, like Turkey, Egypt and Italy – ensuring the children are protected wherever possible. They also work in countries like Serbia, Greece and Germany, to ensure that these children understand their rights and have access to care and support.
