Do your children know more than you about the internet?
That’s the big question that many parents are
asking as the pace of change of online technologies gets ever
faster.
And research shows that nearly half of all parents and 70 per
cent of parents of 12-15 year olds think they know less about the
internet than their own children.
In response we are supporting our friends at the Child
Exploitation and Online Protection centre to take the next step in
their Thinkuknow education campaign by introducing a range of innovative
resources to engage parents and carers to get involved in their
children’s life online.
As a responsible payments business and employer of thousands of
parents, helping children and young people stay safe online is an
issue very close to our hearts. That’s why, as a founding partner
of CEOP, Visa Europe is working with CEOP to reach new audiences –
like parents and carers – in order to help children and young
people enjoy online technologies safely.
Launching in time for Safer
Internet Day (Tuesday 7 February), CEOP’s new resources aim to
provide families with all the knowledge and skills they need to
enjoy the benefits of being online. CEOP are now inviting parents
and carers to tune in to the ‘world’s largest parents’ evening’ on
Safer Internet Day to find out how they can support their children
to stay safe online.
In an entertaining TV-style programme, CEOP will provide
families with practical tips and advice, including:
- information to help parents stay up to date with the
technologies their children are using
- guidance on how to talk to children about technologies, sites
and services
- what actions to take and where to seek further support if
things go wrong
Tune in to learn more about what your child is up to online and
how you can support them.
