Corporate responsibility

At Visa Europe we conduct our business with integrity.  We believe that our activities benefit society, supporting and strengthening the economy by making payments simpler and safer for businesses and individuals.  In short, building our business and doing business responsibly lead us in the same direction.

We have a clear and unifying theme for all corporate responsibility initiatives – protecting young people and empowering them to fulfil a positive role in society. Examples include developing programmes and relationships which support the fight against online child abuse, fundraising, and educating young people in how to manage their money responsibly.

We work with a number of partners, charities and community groups and our contribution is a mix of financial support, time and expertise.

Recent highlights include:

  • 2011 saw a new initiative to support the fight against card crime, helping police forces and law enforcement agencies across the UK, Italy, Germany, and throughout continental Europe, to recognise and deal with payment card fraud.
  • For the first time, in 2011, we recruited 19 apprentices who will work across our business, gaining practical work experience and continuing their education. We hope they will become leaders of the future.
  • In February 2012, our support helped the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre to launch the ‘Parents’ and Carers’ Guide to the Internet’ which focuses on demystifying the online technologies used by children and providing families with practical guidance on how to stay safe online.
  • We have donated more than €500,000 to UNICEF since January 2010, through a combination of employee fundraising and corporate donations.
